I participated in a truly amazing experience during the retreat a month ago called an Angel Walk. Yes, yes, yes, it’s a very youth group / summer camp type thing, but again, don’t question it. We all chose random cards on the first day that had affirmations written on them. All week, we studied our personal affirmation (mine was “I now have a clear and open connection with my higher self.”) The last thing we did as we closed the retreat was to line up in rows facing each other. One person would be blindfolded and they would walk down this walkway while each person lined up would whisper their affirmation into the blindfolded person’s ear one by one. I did a crappy job of explaining that, but trust me when I say it was miraculous. These affirmations nearly brought me to my knees, healing up old wounds, and giving me permission to free myself from all the negativity I’ve been holding for years. I was so moved by the experience that I requested all of the affirmations. I printed them all out, cut them up, and now have them folded up like fortunes in a bowl. Every day I pick one and I repeat it to myself all day long. I also whisper them into my kids’ ears as they are playing. It’s like you can see the whole world just lift from their shoulders. It works. (BTW, my dad made that bowl. Isn’t it gorgeous?)
I have always encouraged my birth clients to use affirmations in preparation for the birth of their child and the results are miraculous. Women who felt that they couldn’t even manage one contraction without medication have affirmed their way into the natural homebirthing hall of fame. It just makes sense. We can also use affirmations to rebirth ourselves. Words are that powerful.
Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behaviors. Keep your behaviors positive because your behaviors become your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.
